Thread: Mandarin Duck full spread!

    Mandarin Duck full spread!

With the 500 out to Nikon for CLA, I've got a lot more time to catch up on editing! Here's one from a month back of a Mandarin Duck at the local Biopark pond.

Would have loved to have seen the other wing peek through, but I'll take the water droplets here. Shot in DX mode to get the 6 fps (D800 + grip + D4 battery).

    Shooting info:
    Nikon D800 | 500 f/4 VR
    1/5000" | f/6.3 | ISO 800

that is a fantastic image, great action, great focus. I noticed a few of your waterfoul images like this are in similar locations, is this a wildlife management area or something similar?

Awesome shot. Has this been cropped or is that just the 500 doing its job haha. Amazing can't wait to see more.

    Thanks for the comments.

This is a local Biopark. They have quite a few species including: Ruddy Ducks, American Wigeons, Ring Necked Ducks, Mallards, and this single Mandarin. The Mandarin is captive, but the rest are wild ducks that come and go with the seasons. It's a neat place to shoot since the ducks are used to people and allow us to get close to them.

NEF - this is a slight crop, but the D800 and 500mm handle crops really well, so no IQ loss in my opinion.
