    The nikon D810

The new nikon D810 has been announced.

    Nikon D810 Preview
    JARED POLIN JUNE 26, 2014

The Nikon D810 has effectively combined and evolved the features of the D800 and D800E. Those two cameras were revolutionary for their time and the Nikon D810 is now evolutionary. As with many mid product cycle updates the D810 takes features from itís brothers before and builds on them.

D810 24 70 front 300x252 Nikon D810 PreviewYou have a new 36.3 CMOS sensor with no OLPF. The ISO range has been expanded to 64-12800 ISO with a Low 1 of 32 and an H2 of 51,200.
There is now an Expeed 4 processor which process the files 30% faster. That makes way for the 5 FPS in FX and 7 FPS in DX mode.

The Group Area AF mode has been added to this camera which makes it the second Nikon body to do so behind the D4s. This mode has worked out very well for me and should really help photographers who may have had issue with the D800s focusing.

Some people complain about the size of the RAW files and Nikon has finally added a RAW S or Small RAW file to the D810. Canon shooters have had this option for many years and itís about time Nikon has found a way to do it in theirs.

    Read more about it here.

yeah me too. its a mild upgrade from the D800/e, but its got some really interesting things going for it, I'm not sure if I'll eventually sell my d800e and upgrade to the 810, or wait for the next D8xx version to come out and get that.

oh totally, I'm really interested in some things like the partial electronic shutter to reduce vibration and get sharper images, native base ISO of 64, the group AF, and the improved ergonomics sound pretty cool. the test images I've seen don't really show me much that the D800/E can't do as far as Image quality is concerned, but until it starts getting into people's hands that remains to be seen...I've heard that it'll start shipping mid july.

if its significantly better than the 800e I might look at refurbs or something about 6 months after the release.

Where do refurbs come from that fast? People dropping them, failed parts? They just get so many so fast.

no, refurbs aren't damaged units, they're things like, store returns (buyers remorse, but can't be sold as 'new', so they're checked by the factory and sold as refurbs), open box demo returns, units pulled from the production line for random testing, or warrantied out items (for example, when the D600 dust issues were going on, at one point people would send in their D600, and just get a new one in return, nikon would then refurbish the returned one with new parts and sell it as a refurb)

my d800e was a refurb, it had a total of 17 shots taken with it when I got it, I would guess it was either a testing unit, or perhaps a store return or something.

my wife's D5000 was a refurb too, but I didn't check the shutter count on it so I don't know what it was when we got it. I wouldn't hesitate to buy a refurb body, as long as its a FACTORY refurb and not like a store or third party refurbishment.
