    Nikkor 10.5 f/2.8 DX fisheye

So I'm looking at this nikkor 10.5mm fisheye lens. I'm hearing some good things about this older lens.

But as usual you know I like to post questions up hear before I jump head first into buying something.
What does everyone think of this lens?

I might rent the 10.5 before purchasing just to be on the safe side.

fisheyes are cool, kindof a specialty thing. personally I don't know how much I'd use a fisheye but I have wanted one just to play around with for a while.

the 10.5DX lens is a great quality lens, I don't think you'd be disappointed by the IQ you get from it at all. but it is a fisheye, so renting one to see how you like it and if it's worth it for you to invest in buying one wouldn't be a bad idea. its also a DX lens, so if you go FX in the future, not a bad thing, you could just sell it if you went fx, but still something to keep in mind.

Yea looking like I'll be staying DX for a year or 2 plus they look like they hold value well enough that it wouldn't hurt to bad when I sold it.
I was reading about it and it said that it's not really for shooting landscape, thats another reason why I want to rent one first to see if I could use it for landscape shots and get the look I want.
The 10.5 is said to have a 180 viewing angle.

yeah, I don't know that landscapes would be best with it, not that it couldn't be done, and done well, but I wouldn't advertise it as a landscape lens specifically...

all fisheye lenses have a 180* viewing angle. but they have TONS of uncontrolled barrel distortion, so straight lines won't stay straight. but that's what they're made for...I know a lot of skateboarder photographers use them for in-action skating shots...

So I may be more suited with a 12mm ultrawide FX?

possibly, just depends on what you're looking to get. I really don't think ultrawides are the ideal thing for most landscapes, but they can be used really well.
