A few trips coming up soon

So I've got a few trips that will have a major photo component to them coming up soon. I'm headed out to the Tetons in the next couple weeks with the wife, and I'll be down in Vegas at the beginning of November to cover an automotive event for my other site, but while I'm down there I might try to cruise out to Death Valley and do some shooting, or maybe valley of fire.

I've never been to the Tetons/death valey/valley of fire before. anyone ever been there? any good suggestions on places to go/see?

Been to Teton a few times. If you have a 4x4 there is a decent side road (Baseline Flat Road) that runs off the main North/South road through Teton. It goes east over toward the Snake River.
Other than that road, just traveling the main road will get you some great locations for some shots. Jenny lake parking area is a must, but, if busy, good luck in finding a spot to park. There are some small pull offs past the parking area. Jackson Lake is another location.
Of course this is based on whether it is open or closed, and if open, the depth of the snow. Might not want to tray Baseline flat road if there is a lot of snow on it. There are some decent hills to go up and down, and I'm sure the park service never plows it in the winter.

If the park is closed, then I believe Hwy 191 will also be closed, which means the only way to get a photo of the Tetons might be from Idaho.

I heard that 191 has to stay open for commercial traffic, but I could be completely wrong, I guess we'll see when we get up there. we'll be taking the jeep so we'll have 4wd if needed.

I would think so since it is a major highway. I know US 24 is not being closed through Capital Reef NP. But they also don't have any toll booths. But the park service seems to be going overboard in closing things for this shutdown vs. the one back in the 90s. Friend of mine faced down a park ranger outside of Mt. Rushmore a week or so ago. Park rangers actually blocked off part of a state hwy so people could not stop. Well, he moved the cones and a park ranger tried to boot him out, but when pushed came to shove, the ranger didn't want the local sheriff to intervene. Which was very smart of the ranger....

yeah, it was a joke up in the tetons, they closed off all of 191 after the moran split and had cops patrolling the short part that was open looking for people were stopping along the roadside.

yeah, these were actual cops patrolling though, there were some park rangers, but the rest were highway patrol.
